After no competition in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club were delighted to resume the Champion of Champions in 2021. The early rounds were played on the weekend of the 4th to 6th of July with the semi finals and finals on Sunday the 11th of July. Due to the effect that the COVID Pandemic had on all sport clubs were invited to submit an entry from their 2019 champions, or 2020 if they had managed to play their 2020 club championships.
The winning semi finalists were Noleen Kelly of Crumlin and Rita Saunders of Dun Laoghaire in the LBLI Champion of Champions. The BLI Champion of Champions finalists were Paddy Taaffe of Skerries and Mark Brown of Dun Laoghaire. This was the first time Dun Laoghaire players were involved in both finals.
Despite the rain we were treated to 2 fantastic finals with Noleen winning the ladies title and Mark the men’s. This was a very significant win for Mark as this was the first time the men’s championship was won by a Dun Laoghaire man since it’s inception in 1968. . This was Noleen’s 4th win having won before in 2008, 2013, and 2017.
Congratulations to both Noleen and Mark.
Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club wish to thank Lisney Estate Agents for their continuing sponsorship of the tournament
